Top 5 Healthy Foods To Eat Together

By Dominic On November 24, 2009 Under Cooking Tips, Healthy Eating

I am often asked what are the top 5 healthy foods to eat together as a family.

Before I begin I would like to stress how beneficial it is for the family to sit down and eat together at least a couple of times a week. If you can manage to do it more often then that is even better but it is so good to sit down as a family and eat together.

Lets get back to the food, to start with I must mention fruit. If you can persuade your family to all eat several pieces of fruit per day it would be absolutely brilliant. The health benefits of fruit are widely known and getting in the routine of eating it regularly will do wonders for you and your families health.

I always recommend that if you meet a little resistance, especially from the younger ones, prepare a lovely fruit smoothie. A glass of this wonderful liquid will tempt anyone, believe me!

Vegetables are obviously on the list and if your family are not to keen try offering some carrot and celery strips and a home made tomato dip. You will soon have them begging for more.

One of the healthiest foods you can get is salmon .It is a great source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids and cooked slowly in the oven and served with some potatoes and leafy green vegetables will provide you and your family with a beautiful meal and jam packed with goodness.

Whole grains should also be included and an example of how to include these grains in a meal that the family can enjoy would be a meal of brown rice and chicken. Look in your favourite recipe book for ideas but I can tell you a plain dish of brown rice with pieces of chicken was always a firm favourite of mine when I was growing up.

Lastly, instead of having bags of sweets and biscuits laying around the house try and place small bowls of berries. Berries are absolutely loaded with vitamin c and are one of the best disease fighting foods available. Don’t bother peeling them, just wash and leave for your family to get stuck in to.

To your food heaven

Dominic
