Eating Healthy = Living Healthy
In 2010, three of the five biggest health risks in America were preventable. Out of the ten biggest, six were preventable. Obviously this equates to a statistic that describes that 60% of the deadliest or most common health problems in the United States could have been avoided, according to life insurance companies. These include:
- Heart disease
- Type 2 diabetes (the fastest growing health impairment of 2010)
- Depression and mental illness
- Respiratory diseases
- Sleep Apnea
- Hepatitis
Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Prawn Recipes and An Easy Chicken Salad
For my August recipes I have gone for a very summery double. My prawn recipes are a fantastic mix of prawns and spices. You can cook on a stove or out on the BBQ. I prefer the BBQ at this time of year.
My Easy chicken salad is a fantastic recipe for those of us that like to take it easy in the sun and not do too much but the food is still just as good as standing on your feet all day slaving over a hot cooker.
Common Nutrient Deficiencies In The American Diet
Everyone knows that it’s important to eat a healthy diet because natural foods contain vitamins and minerals that are necessary for optimum organ functionality. However, most people probably do not know the dangers that lie in vitamins and minerals deficiency. Here are some of the most common deficiencies in the America diet.
CHROMIUM—90% deficient (in the American diet): a mineral found in whole grains, lean meats, and some spices, chromium deficiency is characterized by anxiety and fatigue and long term deficiency can lead to type II diabetes!
Mummy Kitchen: Two Fish Suppers In 15 Minutes
I am a big fan of good quality meals that can be whipped quickly for today’s busy family. When my son finishes school I just want to spend time with him – not drag him in the kitchen for the entire evening.
Also, as someone that lives in a hot seaside climate, fish is always top of the menu as a great cheap option. I have put together two of my favourite fish suppers, that are not only cheap to make and healthy but are also quick to cook. Your family will be amazed at what you have put together and it can be our little secret where you found the fish meals from!!!

Is Subway Really “Healthier” Than McDonald’s?
Subway has been very smart in the way that they market their brand. Touted as a healthy alternative to traditional fast food, they have grown at an alarmingly quick rate and have (supposedly) overtaken McDonald’s as the largest “fast food” chain in the world.
With approximately 1,000 more global stores than McDonald’s, Subway is growing at six new stores per week, and they show no signs of stopping any time soon. However, is there success due to the fact that they are indeed better for you than the greasy, fatty fare of the past generation or is there success simply a result of their intuitive marketing strategy?
Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Grilled Fish Recipe and Lemon Shortbread
So for the start of summer I have gone for a nice light main course which won’t take too long to cook in the heat. It gets very hot here in Portugal from July onwards even with air conditioning.
So with the heat in mind my recipes can be cooked out side on a BBQ, the main course anyway. For pudding this month I have gone for a Lemon shortbread with some ice cream on the side or a bit of cream.
Mummy Kitchen: My First Steamer
Last month I bought my very first steamer after years of threatening to do so and I am in love with it. I have always thought of steaming as a great way to combine cooking your meat, potato and vegetables all at once without the usual hassles that go with it.
For starters the cleaning that you have to do is a lot less and I can easily clean mine up afterwards in a few short minutes. In comparison to having pans and oven trays to sort out it is a dream.

5 Tips For Eating Your Way To Healthy
While many experts agree that you exercise should be an important part of your life (if you want to be healthy—and who doesn’t?), good health begins and ends with the proper diet. After all, you need energy to be able to work out and you need antioxidants to repair the damage done to your cells when you work out (this is a good thing).
Where do you get these things? Well, you can always take a natural vitamin and mineral supplement, but for the best results you should simply try and eat better. Here are a few things you need to remember when trying to maintain a proper diet:’
Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Healthy Vegetables and Chinese Chicken wings
For this months recipes I have gone for something a bit different from your conventional starter and main course. The healthy veg is a great light starter and a bit different, but that doesn’t take away from the taste of these veg.
With the main course this month I have gone for Chinese chicken wings, the recipe is quite small in quantity but please yourself how many you want to cook. I would double the recipe if you are adding more chicken wings.
