How to Avoid Binge Eating
Binge eating is the act of overeating in one sitting when you are not necessarily even hungry. Many people actually do this in private because of their embarrassment over their eating habits. It is not uncommon for these people to have private stashes of food hidden in their home or car. Some people even make late night runs through fast food drive-thru windows to get a “fix”.
Thankfully, there are some tips that can help you if you have this problem. You can overcome this issue if you implement some proven strategies to help you avoid this negative habit. Here are some ideas to get your started:
· Diversion: You need to find something that will divert your attention when you feel like you are going to binge. It might be making a phone call to a trusted friend, taking a hot bubble bath, exercising or participating in hobby. You might even want to meditate or have prayer time when you feel the need to binge.
· Replace the habit: It is very important to replace a bad habit, no matter what it is. Just trying to stop doing something does not work very well. You want to replace it with a healthier habit. If you want to binge, you might want to go to the gym instead or take a long walk.
· Figure out why: The key to overcoming any negative habit is to figure out what is causing it. When you feel the need to binge, write down your feelings and that will help you uncover why you are binging.

I’ve had to really focus on my diet, recently, because of high cholesterol. The following have really helped me stop binge-eating.
Eat a big breakfast in the morning. Eat lots of porridge. It’s really good for you, and fills you up. I, also, eat lots of healthy fruit in the morning as well.
If I’m at home, I often have lentils (with a bit of meat + veg + rice mixed up). Lentils are really good for you. Also, your body feels filled up.
Porridge, fruit and lentils have really changed things for me. Although i do binge from time-to-time, it’s down about 90%. And if i am going to binge, i try and binge on something healthy such as fruit or nuts (raw, salt-free) nuts. And then take that extra bit of exercise the next day.
Oh, yes, and drink lots of water (well, as much as your body needs - a lot of people don’t drink enough water). Water helps to fill you up as well.
Lastly, I used to eat very badly. Was bad at exercise. And so on. I’ve had to give up smoking, too. But i feel a different person. I actually enjoying cooking up things such as porridge and lentils etc .. now because i know that it makes me feel better (and then there is the long-term, positive effects as well).
If i can, anyone can. Good luck!
