Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Cooked Vegetables and Cottage Pie

For my February $7 meals I am going for a vegetable selection and a Cottage Pie. I have chosen the vegetable selection because even though the recipe says you have to boil the potatoes now you can use another way of preparing them.

We have just bought a Philips Air fryer where you can have any food you like but not feel guilty. If you buy one I would use one of these to cook your vegetables because they taste wonderful in the air fryer.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Potato Gratin And A Chocolate Cheese Cake

For my December Recipes for $7 I have chosen Potato Gratin and a Chocolate Cheese cake. Potatoes are inexpensive around the world so you should not have any problems getting a cheap bag of those.

With the cheese cake you might already be able to source some ingredients from your cupboard already if you are a keen cook and like to cook at home. So you might not have to buy too many ingredients.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Prawn Cocktail and Tuna Pasta Bake

For my November recipes I have gone with a fishy theme. You can’t beat a good old fashioned Prawn cocktail. A few prawns with abit of Mary rose Sauce over the top and some brown bread toasted on the side, heaven.

For the main course I have gone for a simple Tuna Pasta bake. I have being making these for years and this recipe has being fine tuned for quickness and tastiness. I also like some crusty bread with my Tuna Bakes and abit of spice.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Bangers and Mash and Gingerbread

For my October recipes I have chosen Bangers and mash and Gingerbread. I find both are cheap and very easy to prepare. They are ideal for a small family or large family. My sausages always have to be the thick ones.

I am sorry but there just is no comparison. Pork or beef sausages are fine; if you buy them in bulk they will be cheaper. Potatoes are not too expensive but they are far better than packet mash.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Autumn Soup and Chicken Curry

For my September recipes I have chosen a rustic starter. A lovely autumn soup, it is very filling and full of vegetables and abit of meat. I like to use chicken instead of Turkey because I can utilise the rest of the chicken in the main course.

For my main course I am going for a basic chicken curry because when you are on a budget it is great to be able to make 2 dishes out of the one piece of meat. I find this curry recipe very tasty indeed.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Prawn Recipes and An Easy Chicken Salad

For my August recipes I have gone for a very summery double. My prawn recipes are a fantastic mix of prawns and spices. You can cook on a stove or out on the BBQ. I prefer the BBQ at this time of year.

My Easy chicken salad is a fantastic recipe for those of us that like to take it easy in the sun and not do too much but the food is still just as good as standing on your feet all day slaving over a hot cooker.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Grilled Fish Recipe and Lemon Shortbread

So for the start of summer I have gone for a nice light main course which won’t take too long to cook in the heat. It gets very hot here in Portugal from July onwards even with air conditioning.

So with the heat in mind my recipes can be cooked out side on a BBQ, the main course anyway. For pudding this month I have gone for a Lemon shortbread with some ice cream on the side or a bit of cream.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Healthy Vegetables and Chinese Chicken wings

For this months recipes I have gone for something a bit different from your conventional starter and main course. The healthy veg is a great light starter and a bit different, but that doesn’t take away from the taste of these veg.

With the main course this month I have gone for Chinese chicken wings, the recipe is quite small in quantity but please yourself how many you want to cook. I would double the recipe if you are adding more chicken wings.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Toad in the hole and Spotted dick

For my May recipes I thought I would go for a toad in the hole and spotted dick recipe. I chose toad in the hole as it is not very widely known outside the UK and I thought this would be a good chance for other countries to give it a try.

For my pudding I don’t really like it but it is very popular on a Sunday round at your grans after a Sunday dinner. These meals are not very light on the tummy but with summer fast approaching this could be the last of the winter favourites.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Melon Boat Starter and Cashew chicken recipe

For my April recipes I wanted a light starter and a light filling main course. The melon starter is easy to do and the kids will love to help you make the boats. But they will probably eat as they make the boats.

So the boats may come out more as rafts! For the main course I have gone for Cashew Chicken which is an oriental dish. It is light on the belly but filling and easy to make. I can get Chicken in Portugal for about 4 euros for 3 breasts.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals: Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Salad and Chocolate Trifle

Since the middle of Febuary here in Portugal the weather has being brilliant for this time of the year. So I have decided to include a salad in my meals this month. I think this salad will be cheap to make anywhere in the world.

The Bacon Lettuce and Tomato salad is one of my favourites because it is easy to make quick and simple but that doesn’t take away from the way it tastes. My dessert this month is going to be chocolate trifle.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals:Tomato Soup and Fishcakes

Febuary’s $7 meals already this year is going so quickly. This month i have gone for a rich and tasty Tomato Soup as a starter and some lovely Fishcakes. I love to make my own Tomato Soup because i like it to be so creamy and rich. Some of the tinned varities can be pretty awful.

I like to make Fishcakes because over here in Portugal Fish is one of there main ingredients that they eat so that means there is a great variety of fish to choose from. In the recipe i have put cod but if you find this expensive any white fish will do. I like to use catfish they maybe abit watery but they are very tasty.

Dominic’s $7 Family Meals:Turkey Stir Fry And Victoria Sandwich Cake

Happy New Year to all my blog readers. I thought I would start this year with a Turkey Stir Fry as you attempt to get rid of the rest of your Christmas leftovers. We personally had a turkey stir fry on boxing day and it was wonderful. Plus it felt even better knowing how little it actually cost!!!!

Many don’t realise the asset of actually freezing some of their turkey once it is cool and then it will last even longer. So you could be having your christmas turkey on valentines day!!!
