Family Baking At The Weekend – My Fun Time With My Boy

I love spending down with my boy at the weekend and on the majority of weekends we do some baking together. We will usually make a selection of biscuits or prepare the evening meal.

So last weekend as usual we went in the kitchen and made two rounds of biscuits along with getting the stew into the crockpot ready for our sunday evening meal.

I always remnember when I was little baking with my grandparents and as we live away from ours the parents then take over the role.

Enjoying Dinner At The Table As A Family

It must not be underestimated how important it is for a family to sit down together around the table to enjoy a family dinner. It is not just the fact that the family are eating together but that if they are sitting down together they will also be talking and laughing, something that many families don’t get the chance to do in this day and age.

Due to the hectic pace that life is now led, everyone seems to be far to busy to enjoy the basic things in life that really do make such a big difference and it is far easier to sit and eat a quick meal in front of the television or in some cases, miss meals out altogether.

Top 10 Food Storage Solutions

As far as I’m concerned you can never have enough food storage solutions so I have decided to review some of the food storage solutions that are available on Amazon and which I think would suit the needs of anyone who is looking for food storage solutions.

Joseph Joseph Melamine Bread Bin

This has to be one of my favourites and it is such a great idea I don’t know why I didn’t think of it myself. It is basically a bread storage container but the lid also doubles up as a bread cutting board. The container is of good quality and to round it off it really does look really good.

Inviting your children into your cooking workspace

What could be a better way of enjoying cooking than inviting your children into your cooking workspace. As well as being a fun activity it will also mean that your children will feel comfortable in the kitchen which will leave them well equipped for looking after themselves when they leave home in years to come.

Unfortunately it is often the case that if children venture into their cooking parents workspace they end up getting shouted at and told to leave things alone. Imagine the difference if they are actually welcomed into the cooking workspace and actively encouraged to get involved.

Finding your cooking mentor and sticking with it

If you really want to forge ahead with your cooking skills it is highly recommended that you find yourself a mentor who will guide you along the way. I am not saying that you have to splash out a fortune by paying someone to personally teach you all that they know (that is unless you can afford it) but by following the books and videos of your chosen cooking mentor you really can learn so much.

Top 10 Gordon Ramsay Books

If you want to learn how to cook you really need to take notice of someone who is an expert in the field and in my opinion you really can’t get more of an expert than Gordon Ramsay.

He has written several cookery books and this is my review on the top 10

Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape

This is definitely one of my favourites. It is based on a tour that Gordon embarked on around India, stopping off at various places along the way, from top hotels to ordinary peoples houses. The section of the book where he describes joining the cooking staff at a wedding is absolutely brilliant and the old chef in charge most definitely taught the old dog a few tricks, highly recommended.

Good cooking starts with passion in the kitchen

There are many great cooks all over the world and the vast majority of them have not received any kind of training at all. So what makes them good cooks who are able to produce dishes that can really take your breath away with flavours and ingredients that mere mortals would not even consider.

The simple answer to this is that to be a good cook you must have a passion in the kitchen. You must absolutely love what you are doing and as with any other walk of life, if you love what you do it will come shining through in everything that you do do.

Taking advantage of your fresh herb pots in the garden

It doesn’t really matter what kind of house you live in, there is nothing stopping you from taking advantage of your fresh herb pots in the garden. You could even live in a top floor flat and you could still have a wide range of fresh herb pots at your disposal which would enhance any level of cookery.

There are many herbs that you could use and the only maintenance that they really need are placing in an area where they will get plenty of light (a window sill) for example and that they are watered on a regular basis.

Gordon Ramsay: The holy grail of TV chefs

Well, what can you say about Gordon Ramsay apart from that he is the holy grail of TV chefs. You really do have to take your hat off to him as he really has taken being a TV chef up to the next level and is always raising the bar with regard to what is possible in the world of cooking.

He always seems to bounce back from life’s hurdles and a lot can be learnt from him, both from his cooking abilities and his entrepreneurial spirit. He has several top class restaurants, the most prestigious being Gordon Ramsay at Claridges of which it would be fair to say is one of the best restaurants in London.

Why I love to cook fresh food

There are many reasons why I love to cook fresh food and the number one reason is that the taste is so different from food that is not fresh. The problem is that many people unfortunately do not ever taste fresh food and they just cannot imagine that it would taste any different. After all, a carrots a carrot and a piece of salmon is a piece of salmon, isn’t it. Well no, not really. Fresh vegetables for example really do taste so much different from tinned vegetables that you would not believe it.

Just by making some simple changes to your diet and by downgrading some of the different foods that you eat can make all of the difference and enable you to lose weight in both a fun way and without you having to think to much about it.

1/ When ordering a Chinese takeaway meal it can make a huge difference if you order boiled rice rather than egg fried rice. A portion of boiled rice contains around 370 calories where as a portion of egg fried rice is more than double this amount. When you realise this fact and take it into account it makes the choice of boiled rice a little easier to make.

The copycat cookbook – An honest review

Have you ever eaten out at any of the famous restaurant chains such as Pizza Hut, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster and TGI Fridays and wondered how they are able to cook dishes that have that unique taste to them and no matter how hard you try, you just cannot recreate them in your own kitchen, there is always just that something that is not quite right.

Sending your child to school with a piece of fruit

Everyone knows how important it is that everyone, especially children, eat their 5 pieces of fruit per day but the big mistake that many parents make is that it is just to boring. If your children love fruit and would rather eat a piece of fruit rather than a chocolate bar any day of the week, then you are a very lucky parent with very healthy children.
