Top Food Recipe: Traditional Bakewell Tart

If there is one traditional tart that I have loved year after year it will have to be the traditional bakewell tart and this is my personal take on the recipe that I used to make many times as a kid in my Grandma’s kitchen.

If you want to create new memories for your kids or grandkids then this is your chance…

6oz shortcrust pastry
2 tbsp raspberry jam

The Well-Stocked Pantry — A Cook’s Secret Weapon

Doing any job is easier when you have the right tools on hand. One of a cook’s best tools — and secret weapons — is having a well-stocked pantry.

pantry

Cooking is much simpler if you know that you’ve already got what you need on hand, and aren’t going to have to run to the corner market every time you want to fix a meal.

Having a well-stocked pantry is also the secret weapon of every “Hostess with the Mostest” especially when unexpected guests drop by.

Top Food Recipe: Golden Chicken Nuggets

I personally love eating chicken nuggets and having a child means I have the chance to eat them even more. I prefer not to buy them pre-made though because the salt levels are sky high and they do not offer anything for a growing child.

However whenever you make your own they taste simply amazing and melt in your mouth as you take a bite. Though I should warn you now once you have sampled home made chicken nuggets you will never want to go back to the McDonalds chicken nuggets range again!!!

Keeping warm with a wonderful menu this month

Even though I live in the sunny skies of Portugal we still have really cold winters just like most of the world. It gets warm from around March so we are now at that point when we are sick to death of the cold weather and all we want to do is have a walk by the beach.

However I should be grateful when I look at how bad the weather is in England.

With cold weather though comes a winter menu and I love cooking hot winter food that you can enjoy for hours with your family.

Bread, chicken and chilled white wine – the perfect match

Since moving to Portugal I have discovered that there is three things that a Portuguese menu simply can’t live without. It is your bread, chicken and chilled white wine. (obviously I find the wine the most appealing especially after a long day!)

Whenever you visit a Portuguese restaurant the white wine tastes beautiful and it is nicely chilled and served to you at the beginning of the meal. At the same time you will be served with fantastic sliced crusty bread which compliments the wine perfectly and it will come out with some butter, sardine pate and locally produced olives.

My favourite food assistant

If there is one thing that I couldn’t live without in the kitchen it would have to be the slow cooker or crockpot as it is better know to my American readers.

When I first came across them I had the typical bloke attitude:

Why on earth would I waste my money on one of these?

Well the truth is we received our very first slow cooker as a present from a customer that purchased from us in our early door to door selling days. They had simply downgraded the size and give us their family sized slow cooker. At first we placed it in the cupboard and forgot about it until the winter months approached us.
